There’s one more preseason game left before the regular season starts, and the entire country is vibrating with excitement. The smell of the grass, the roar of the crowd, the anticipation of seeing improvement, and wondering which players will show up and show out this season.
For the New York Giants, cornerback Deonte Banks has been named a potential breakout player by Peter Schrager of Good Morning Football.

“How about Deonte Banks,” Schrager says, “the Giants first-round pick from a year ago who is expected to make the leap in year number two in a way where we’re talking about him in the same breath as Sauce (Gardner).
“The Giants love this dude. He’s their number one corner, it’s year number two, he’s going up against guys like A.J. Brown and Terry McLaurin, and CeeDee Lamb this season. At least we think, and I think Deonte Banks is ready for that action. 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, 24th overall pick a year ago, 64 tackles, 11 passes defensed last season, he’s entering year number two. I think he is a breakout stud.”
On top of the stats Schrager mentions, Banks also had two interceptions last season. While he’s appeared in both preseason games, his time is limited because his position on the team is secure. He recorded one tackle against the Lions.
Banks could very well turn into a leader in his group. He is the No. 1 guy, and if he can lead and mentor his teammates as well as he can play, the Giants will be on their way to a very solid defensive side.
