ESPN NFL writer Field Yates put out a new one-round mock draft for 2025 this week. Even though the 2024 NFL season is just getting started, it’s never too soon to start thinking about the top prospects for next year and where they fit on various NFL teams.
For the Pittsburgh Steelers, Fields leaves them with an embarrassment of riches when they go on the clock with the No. 13 overall pick. We will take exception to the Steelers picking so high later but for now, Pittsburgh has some options.
Yards opted for Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan for Pittsburgh in the first round. Here’s what he had to say about the pick:
As evidenced by the Steelers’ pursuit of Brandon Aiyuk, wide receiver is a position to further bolster in Pittsburgh. And while the team’s track record with non-Round 1 wideouts is solid, McMillan is far too good to pass on. He has rare 6-5 size and power, and the way he snares everything within arm’s reach jumps out on tape. McMillan is a good route runner, he’s strong after the catch and he has the physicality to post up defenders to win on contested catches. McMillan — who had 90 catches for 1,402 yards and 10 scores last season — could boost the Steelers’ offense opposite George Pickens.
McMillan would be a great pick for Pittsburgh and the logic behind it is sound. But If this is how the first round played out, the Steelers would have some excellent options. Georgia safety Malaki Starks, Ohio State cornerback Denzel Burke, and Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden are all available as well.
We actually like Burden quite a bit more than McMillan and have him as an easy Top 10 prospect.
