Kentucky football loses a key starter on offense to an injury

Kentucky football will start the 2024 season without a key player on offense due to injury.

The 2024 season is going to be a difficult one for Kentucky football, even when at full strength. Losing a starter only makes it harder, but that’s what the Wildcats will be dealing with to start the year after running back Chip Trayanum broke his hand.

Trayanum transferred to Kentucky from Ohio State this offseason, and was a big addition for Mark Stoops and his staff. He carried the ball 85 times for 373 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Buckeyes last year, coming off the bench.

The injury was reported by Kentucky Sports Radio’s Matt Jones, who says the team expects Trayanum to miss three to four weeks. That would have him missing the first two games of the season, versus Southern Miss and South Carolina.

The running back position will now be filled by some combination of veteran Demie Sumo-Karngbaye, Freshman Jason Patterson, and Jamarion Wilcox, who also has little experience, but was a four-star recruit in the 2023 class.
