The Buffalo Bills are getting ready for the 2024 NFL season with the added task of finding their offensive identity without star wide receiver Stefon Diggs. With Diggs now with the Houston Texans, star quarterback Josh Allen and company will have to figure out how to move forward, but one analyst believes that they will have no problem doing that.
“While Stefon Diggs has been the number one option in this offense, he transformed this offense. He arguably transformed Josh Allen’s career. We saw in the second half of the season last year, when his role was diminished after Joe Brady took over as the offensive coordinator, the offense didn’t really lose a beat,” ESPN’s NFL analyst Mina Kimes said during her appearance on ESPN’s First Take.
To Kimes’ point, Allen has been a different player since Diggs came to the team prior to the 2020 season. In the four seasons that Allen and Diggs played together, Allen has made two Pro Bowls while Diggs made the Pro Bowl in every season, including the 2020 season when he was also First-Team All-Pro.
More to the point, Allen has thrown for at least 4,283 yards and 29 touchdowns in each of those four campaigns while Diggs put up at least 1,183 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in each season. With Diggs now out of town, Allen will have to rely on players like running back James Cook, tight end Dalton Kincaid, and wide receivers like Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and rookie second-round pick Keon Coleman.
Many are expecting for the Bills’ offense to regress after the departures of Diggs and fellow wide receiver Gabe Davis, but there are also some like Kimes who believe that the passing games still has enough weapons to get the job done. Buffalo fans will get their first look at the Bills’ offense on Saturday when the starters take the field against the Chicago Bears.
