CBS Sports ranks Giants’ Brian Daboll in bottom half of NFL coaches

CBS Sports ranked New York Giants’ Brian Daboll among the bottom half of NFL head coaches following a disappointing second year in blue.

Things can change in a hurry in the NFL. Last offseason, the New York Giants were riding high after finding unexpected success in their first season under Brian Daboll.

The success led to Daboll winning the 2022 AP Coach of the Year and it looked as though the Giants had finally found their long-term answer at head coach.

But after a disappointing season in 2023, Daboll could be on the hot seat if the Giants struggle early this season.

CBS Sports recently ranked the head coaches headed into 2024 and the Giants’ head coach landed in the bottom half of the league in the class labeled “Accomplished, with questions.”

21. Brian Daboll (Giants)

Season: 3rd with Giants, 3rd as head coach
Career record: 15-18-1 | Playoffs: 1-1

A tough nut to crack after two wildly different seasons to open his Big Blue tenure, Daboll was a rightful Coach of the Year in 2022, rejuvenating Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley en route to a surprise playoff run, only to slip as both a situational play-caller and sideline maestro in 2023. Once again the onus will be on him maximizing Jones and a still-rebuilding offense in the tough NFC East.

The Giants will look much different this season with the change at defensive coordinator and the addition of Brian Burns, along with the departures of Saquon Barkley and Xavier McKinney.

Daboll’s rank at 21st overall is a tough look considering he ranks lower than the other three head coaches in the NFC East.

Expectations surrounding the Giants are pretty low ahead of the 2024 season. Ultimately, Daboll will be judged upon the team’s record and certainly, the Giants hope this season is closer to the success the team found in Daboll’s rookie year as a head coach.
