Adding the Four Corner schools was Brett Yormark’s ‘A’ plan for Big 12 expansion

Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark spoke on what the Four Corner schools of Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State and Utah bring to his conference

Speaking at the Big 12 media days on Tuesday in Las Vegas, commissioner Brett Yormark touched on adding the Four Corner schools to the conference.

In the latest round of realignment last offseason, the Big 12 added the Colorado Buffaloes, Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils and the Utah Utes to expand to 16 teams, giving the conference a team in every continental time zone. All four schools were previous members of the Pac-12, which is now down to only Washington State and Oregon State.

While fans will undoubtedly focus on the football side of the coin with stars like Shedeur Sanders, Noah Fifita, Cam Rising and Travis Hunter adding to the Big 12’s talent pool, Yormark explained how the four universities also improve other aspects of the conference.

“The Four Corner schools was the ‘A’ scenario for us when we thought about realignment – great fanbases, both athletic and academic excellence,” Yormark said at Big 12 media days. “We got deeper and better in football, deeper and better in basketball, and deeper and better in Olympic sports.”
