The defense will have a few new faces when the Texas Longhorns open their season on Aug. 31. That list includes cornerback Jay’Vion Cole, who transferred to Texas in May after one season with the San Jose Spartans.
Following a productive 2023 campaign, Cole will look to make a good first impression. For the Spartans last year, Cole was a bright spot in the secondary, recording a career-high ten pass deflections and his first sack at the collegiate level. He also recorded a career-high 38 total tackles after recording 15 as a freshman. Regardless of the opponent, the Oakland native found a way to make his presence felt.
Texas adds to its CB room with the addition of San Jose State CB Jay’Vion Cole.

As Cole begins the next chapter of his college career, he will join a Longhorns team coming off an impressive 2023 campaign. Last year, Texas went 12-2 and reached the college football playoff. With two years of eligibility left, Cole will be looking to help the Longhorns mirror last year’s success.
While his statistics may not jump off the page, Cole has improved with experience. His ability to make adjustments will be critical as he faces better offenses in an SEC conference full of talent. It is a challenge he is ready for.
Due to his play last year, Cole received All-Conference accolades from Pro Football Focus. That is one of the reasons he was one of the top cornerbacks in the transfer portal. If he can build on his success, the Longhorns defense should be a tough matchup.
