Texas A&M’s 2024 season with the first under head coach Mike Elko, who has already made his mark on the program after landing 20-plus players through the transfer portal while securing 14 commitments in the 2025 recruiting class.
Amidst the preseason hype, the Aggies, like most teams with a new head coach, are in transition. With a new regime taking charge and a new offense and defense being installed, there’s a sense of anticipation and hope as we head into the beginning of fall camp.
However, the Aggies are stacked with talent on both sides of the ball, starting and ending with redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman and former Purdue Edge Nic Scourton, who led the Big Ten in sacks (10) during the 2023 season.
On a fun note, with EA Sports’ highly anticipated College Football 25 video game set to release on Tuesday, July 16, Texas A&M’s offensive and defensive team ratings have been revealed on a 0-100 scale.
On paper, A&M’s offensive rating makes sense when factoring in the Aggies’ running back depth and veteran wide receiver core led by a hopefully healthy Weigman. Yet, the offensive line’s improvement remains the biggest question mark heading into the year.
Defensively, I expected one of the deepest defensive lines paired with an improved secondary to gain some respect, so the fact that the Aggie D is actually ranked lower than the offense is pretty confusing. But, hey, it’s just a video game, right?
