Texas Longhorns softball punched their ticket to the next round of the winner’s bracket on Thursday evening with a win over the Stanford Cardinal. To win they were going to need to get the better of national pitcher of the year, NiJaree Canady, which they did.
Texas scored two runs in the third and sixth inning to put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh. Freshman pitcher Teagon Kavan allowed just one hit, which came in the first inning to Stanford first baseman Ava Gall. The Cardinal wouldn’t get another hit but would strike out eight times.
Texas will face the winner of the Florida Gators and Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT at Devon Park. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
