The New York Rangers (51-21-4) play their 2nd-to-last regular-season road game Friday night against the Detroit Red Wings (37-30-8). Puck drop at Little Caesars Arena is scheduled for 7:09 p.m. ET (ESPN+).  Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Red Wings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

This is the 3rd matchup between these teams this season, with the 1st 2 coming at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers cashed as a -144 favorite winning 5-3 on Nov. 7, and followed it up on Nov. 29 with a 3-2 victory as a -210 favorite.

New York enters Friday with the most points in the NHL (106), although both Carolina (+320) and Florida (+320) have shorter odds to win the Eastern Conference than New York (+450). LW Artemi Panarin leads the team in points (110), good for 4th-most in the NHL.

The Red Wings got a much-needed win on April 1 over Tampa Bay, cashing as a +150 underdog as they snapped a 4-game losing streak. Entering Friday, Detroit possesses a 45.3% chance to make the postseason according to Moneypuck. Captain C Dylan Larkin, who recorded 2 assists over the Bolts believes his team is “building their game” down the stretch.

Rangers at Red Wings projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (33-16-2, 2.65 GAA, .911 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Alex Lyon (19-16-4, 3.00 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SO)

Shesterkin helped the Rangers earn a 4-3 victory over New Jersey  Wednesday, stopping 17 of 20 shots he faced. The 28-year-old took the loss against Pittsburgh on Monday, allowing 3 goals in a 5-3 loss that saw him get into a bit of a tussle with Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

Lyon’s victory over Tampa was his 1st in 11 starts, a stretch that saw him go 0-8-2 since late February. This year’s Masterton Trophy nominee (awarded for  perseverance and sportsmanship) has played in 39 games this year, double his career total.

Rangers at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 3, Red Wings 2

Moneyline

BET RANGERS (-146).

You are what your record says you are which makes the Blue Shirts the best team in the NHL. This should be a good matchup between a couple of Original 6 teams, not to mention that RW Patrick Kane should be itching for some revenge after last year’s disappointing tenure with New York. Detroit is bottom 5 in the league in shots on goal, including rebound shots and higher danger chances, so I do not expect them to be able to keep up with the Rangers.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

Not interested in fading the Rangers.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-134).

Only the Carolina Hurricanes have allowed fewer power-play goals (34) than New York (35) so if Detroit gets the man advantage, D Jacob Trouba and the Rangers PK unit should be able to protect Shesterkin. Plus, despite 11 giveaways vs. New Jersey, the Rangers have allowed the 2nd-least number of giveaways this season in the Eastern Conference (420), so that is another avenue the Red Wings may not have to score.
