Giants did not make a contract offer to Saquon Barkley

The New York Giants did not make RB Saquon Barkley a contract offer this offseason before he agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles.

When news broke that former New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley was joining the Philadelphia Eagles, the reactions across social media were quite strong from Giants fans.

Despite the Giants negotiating with Barkley’s representatives for years on a long-term deal and Barkley claiming to want to be a Giant “for life,” the two sides were never able to come to terms and the running back entered free agency.

However, as it turns out, the Giants never actually made Barkley an offer this offseason.

The Eagles were one of the favorites to land Barkley for a little over a week and yet it still came as a surprise when he agreed to terms with the NFC East rivals.

While most of Saquon’s former teammates were happy to see him cash in on a large payday, fans — and even some Giants alumni — were disgusted to see him land with the division rivals.

Without an offer, it was debated across social media whether fans could blame Barkley for taking the deal with the Eagles.

Big Blue will now see Barkley as an opponent twice a year. While it’s hard to argue against any athlete going to get the money they have earned, it is certainly difficult to see Saquon land with the Giants’ biggest rivals.
