The Jets are releasing tight end C.J. Uzomah, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

This was an expected move as Uzomah becomes a cap casualty. The Jets will save $5.3 million in cap space as a result, moving them to about $25 million in room with a week before free agency.
Uzomah dropped to No. 3 on the depth chart behind Tyler Conklin and Jeremy Ruckert before an MCL sprain in Week 13 against the Atlanta Falcons ended his season. Uzomah was scheduled tk make $8 million in base salary for 2024, too much for a third tight end.
The Jets will roll with Conklin, Ruckert and perhaps 2023 7th-round pick Zack Kuntz as their tight end room for 2024. Kenny Yeboah could also return as he is a restricted free agent.
Uzomah caught 29 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns in two seasons with the Jets after signing a three-year, $24 million deal before the 2022 as a free agent. Before coming to New York, Uzomah spent seven seasons in Cincinnati, including the 2021 team that reached Super Bowl LVI.
