At this point it’s no secret that the Minnesota Vikings have some choices to make when it comes to the quarterback position. When Kirk Cousins went down last season, the offense bottomed out and it became clear that the future of the franchise is not likely on the roster currently. But with Cousins scheduled to hit free agency, does he come back or do the Vikings look to the NFL draft to fill his shoes?
Tom Fornelli not only has the Vikings opting for the draft, but has them making a bold move to go get their guy. In his latest mock draft for CBS Sports, Fornelli has the Vikings trading up to the fourth spot with the Arizona Cardinals to grab former North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye. Here’s what Fornelli had to say on the selection:
Once Drake Maye falls past the Patriots at No. 3, the Vikings scramble to move up and get him. The Cardinals don’t mind moving down and adding more picks to build out their roster, and the Vikings add a player in Maye who could prove to be their franchise QB for the next decade.
The move up would likely cost the Vikings multiple first-round picks, but would be worth it if Maye becomes the future franchise quarterback some think he’s destined to become. Still, others have speculated that Maye is falling down NFL draft boards, so trading up to get him may be seen as a reach. Only time will tell, but Minnesota is running out of time to figure out their quarterback situation for 2024 and beyond.
