The defending national champions of college baseball could have some upgrades coming to the best baseball stadium in the country soon.
On Friday, the LSU Board of Supervisors will meet to discuss adding 160 more seats in the stadium and moving the home and visiting bullpens. A lot of teams have already moved their bullpens to a safer location.
Sure, having each bullpen on the field outside of the foul line is practical, but it also creates a very real safety hazard. If a pitcher is warming up during a game and a line drive is hit in that direction, the pitcher or the catcher could get hit. Here is what is on the docket for the meeting, per Nola.com’s Koki Riley.
The measure would also add 160 seats for fans by the left and right field foul lines with the majority of the new seating coming to the right field side.
The right field bullpen for the home team will be moved from the right field foul line to a “newly constructed area under the right-field bleachers.” The visitors bullpen by the left field foul line will be moved behind a newly built wall down but will remain down the left field line.
LSU will take on Stony Brook on Friday afternoon with the first pitch at 2 p.m. CT.
