Former NFL player Chris Canty identifies Amon-Ra St. Brown as the most important non-quarterback player for the Detroit Lions against the San Francisco 49ers in the upcoming NFC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara, California. The Lions are trying to make their first-ever Super Bowl appearance, but it won’t be easy against a 49er organization which has played in three of the previous four NFC title games and will be appearing in a third straight NFC Championship Game this weekend.
The Lions have made only one previous appearance in an NFC Championship Game, in January of 1992. They also played on the road. That time, they went to Washington to take on the Redskins, who were by far the NFL’s best team in the 1991 season. Washington blew out Detroit in a game which was never close. The Lions have a much better chance against the 49ers, who don’t know if they will have star receiver Deebo Samuel available to play, but the odds are still stacked against Detroit, which is playing on the road against the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs and the team which has been regarded as a leading Super Bowl favorite for the whole season.
