Chris Godwin wins 2023 Mark Cook Memorial Good Guy Award

The award is given every year to the Bucs player who best handled the media in the regular season.

The Pro Football Writers of America’s “Good Guy” award is given out every year for a player on each NFL team who best handles the media, and reporters on the beat for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have picked their 2023 winner.

The Mark Cook Memorial Good Guy Award, named for late Pewter Report reporter Mark Cook, was handed out to wide receiver [autotag]Chris Godwin[/autotag] on Thursday. The award was given to Godwin by FOX Sports reporter Greg Auman, who serves as the president of the PWFA’s Tampa chapter.

Godwin has been very good with media and reporters all year, but Auman brought up a particular case when presenting the award. Godwin only got a single touch against the Carolina Panthers in Week 13, and when head coach Todd Bowles said this was due to injuries and him being rotated out, his wife Mariah Godwin posted a story on Instagram combatting this claim. Godwin spoke to media in depth the following week, answering every question about the controversy and going in-depth about his concerns with the offense and how he worked with the team to solve them.

Previous winners of the award include offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, outside linebacker Jason Pierre Paul, wideout Mike Evans, offensive tackle Demar Dotson and defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.
