Victor Wembanyama on historical triple-double in Spurs win vs. Pistons

After the San Antonio Spurs’ win over the Detroit Pistons, Victor Wembanyama spoke about his historical triple-double.

The five-win San Antonio Spurs traveled north to take on the three-win Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night, and at the end of the night, the guys from Texas walked out victorious. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs to a 130-108 win over the Cade Cunningham-less Pistons, getting them back in the win column.

Eight different Spurs players finished the game with 10+ points – Wembanyama, Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, Doug McDermott, Tre Jones, Dominick Barlow, and Cedi Osman. However, all the talk coming out of the night was about Wembanyama’s triple-double. Not only did he put it up in a win, but he also made some NBA history in the process.

Wembanyama’s triple-double was the second-fastest recorded in NBA history. The only player to ever record one in fewer minutes was Russell Westbrook in 2014.

After the game, Wembanyama spoke about his impressive accomplishment.

“Doing it in a win is everything, of course,” Wembanyama said via ESPN. “I didn’t know it was the second-fastest in NBA history. It matters to me. I’m not the type to talk for nothing. This is the kind of statement we want to make as a team, and this is type of statement I want to make as a player.”

Wembanyama has 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in 21:02 of action. He shot 6-of-16 from the field and 0-of-4 from behind the three-point line.

But as he said, the most important part of the night was that he helped the Spurs get a win. It was just their third win since November 2.
