Colts’ Ed Dodds among potential GM candidates to watch in 2024

Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds is a potential GM candidate to watch this offseason.

The Indianapolis Colts are among the majority of teams across the NFL preparing for the offseason after missing out on the playoffs, and a handful of those teams will be searching for new general managers.

Among the likely candidates to generate some interest includes Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds, who made Albert Breer’s list of potential future general managers to keep an eye on this offseason.

The NFL’s road scouts universally see Dodds as one of the league’s most connected and talented evaluators—his role in Seattle helping build the Legion of Boom before he arrived in Indy. As the Colts’ assistant GM, he’s been a part of a playoff contender under two different coaches, and has been Chris Ballard’s most trusted lieutenant (with Morocco Brown right there, as well). It’s worth keeping an eye on Las Vegas with Dodds. The Raiders really liked him after he interviewed there in 2022, and he has connections to Jim Harbaugh, who could be a target.

This isn’t some groundbreaking news. Dodds has generated interest across the league over the last two offseasons, and it’s likely some organizations will bring him in for interviews again.

Dodds has been the most trusted advisor for general manager Chris Ballard, and it’s likely only a matter of time before he lands a gig running a front office of his own.

With the Colts’ front office and coaching staff intact—barring a change on defense—it wouldn’t be a surprise to see teams approach Dodds for their vacancies at general manager.
