Willie Gaines announced Tuesday that he’ll once again be looking for opportunities elsewhere.
The speedy wide receiver spent the past two seasons — one at Jackson State and one at Colorado — catching passes from Shedeur Sanders, but he was unable to find much playing time during his lone year with the Buffs. In five games played this past season, Gaines had two receptions for 12 yards.
Gaines was one of Sanders’ favorite targets during their 2022 season together in Jackson. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound WR caught 27 passes for 446 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Before coming to Jackson State, Gaines played at Dodge City Community College from 2020-21. He was previously a three-star prospect out of Cocoa High School in Florida.
Gaines is the first wide receiver and the 11th overall Colorado player to enter the transfer portal this offseason.
