Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy announced his commitment to Duke on Friday after entering the transfer portal earlier this month.
The redshirt freshman will have three years of eligibility and could be a key piece for first-year head coach Manny Diaz as he leads the Blue Devils.
Murphy led Texas to victory in both games he started this season, including a win against No. 25 Kansas State after starting quarterback Quinn Ewers was sidelined due to a shoulder injury.
He threw for 477 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions, and had a 56.3 completion percentage. Murphy entering the portal likely indicates that Ewers will return for his junior campaign and wouldn’t see much playing time as Texas heads to the SEC in 2024.
