When it comes to their rolodex of an injured reserve list, the Carolina Panthers now have one more lifeline left.
The team announced on Wednesday morning that they have designated linebacker Claudin Cherelus to return from IR. His designation is the seventh of a possible eight for Carolina this season.
Cherelus hit the shelf back on Nov. 3 due to a knee injury. He last played in the Week 8 win over the Houston Texans, where he recorded 15 snaps on special teams.
The Panthers claimed Cherelus off waivers from the New York Jets on Aug. 30, along with offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton and cornerback D’Shawn Jamison. The undrafted rookie out of Alcorn State University has appeared in six contests this season, with each of his 105 snaps coming as a special teamer.
Wednesday’s decision now opens Cherelus’ 21-day window to make a return to the active roster. He is eligible to be activated at any time.
