Giants’ Tommy DeVito ‘sore’ after Saints beatdown

New York Giants QB Tommy DeVito is “sore” after being mauled by the New Orleans Saints, but appears to have avoided serious injury.

New York Giants rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito had a rough go of things in New Orleans during the Giants’ 24-6 loss to the Saints, getting sacked seven times and hit a total of nine.

DeVito was also evaluated for a concussion when he endured a hit in the open field by Saints defensive back Isaac Yiadom. It wasn’t the only time he appeared shaken up during the game.

So how was he feeling on Monday?

“He’s okay. He’s sore,” head coach Brian Daboll told reporters. “He took some shots, but from my understanding, he’s just sore.”

DeVito grabbed at his ankle after one hit. Daboll was asked if there was anything to that.

“No, he just said he was sore. He was watching the tape upstairs with (quarterbacks coach) Shea (Tierney), I just popped my head in and said, ‘How you feeling?’ He said he’s sore. I’ll meet with the medical people after this meeting,” Daboll said.

Despite the beatdown, Daboll insists that DeVito will remain the team’s starter for the remainder of the season barring something unforeseen.

“He’s earned it,” said Daboll. “I’m not going to make a week-to-week change. He’s earned it. It’s not always going to be perfect, but he’s earned the opportunity to play.”

Daboll said that he was ‘comfortable’ with DeVito as his starter and was asked if he thought DeVito gave him the best chance to win next Monday afternoon in Philadelphia.

“Yeah, that’s why we’re playing him,” he said.

For DeVito’s sake, the offensive line better up its game in Philly.
