USC has been openly tied to multiple quarterbacks in the transfer portal, including Kansas State’s Will Howard and Texas’s Maalik Murphy.
Murphy is a Southern California native out of Junipero Serra High School. The Trojans do not have a passer committed in the Class of 2024 or 2025, but Riley does hold a commitment from Julian Lewis, the No. 1 overall player in the Class of 2026.
This past season, Murphy served as Texas’ primary backup, but he made two starts in place of Quinn Ewers after he suffered an injury. In seven appearances, he completed 40 of 71 passes for 477 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
“It’s nothing against Texas at all,” Murphy told Thamel. “I’m doing this purely for me and my future. In my eyes, I’ll always be a Longhorn and a part of this great team.”
He took visits to Duke on Friday and then South Carolina on Saturday, followed by a visit to Oregon State on Sunday.
With USC’s Malachi Nelson shocking Trojan fans by entering the portal, don’t be surprised if Murphy takes a visit with USC and entertains the idea of transferring to USC.
More QB dominoes falling tonight …
Toledo's Dequan Finn to Baylor just about locks in Texas' Maalik Murphy to Duke.
And the expectation USC's Malachi Nelson enters via @mzenitz means the Trojans have their transfer in Will Howard, it appears, after his visit this weekend.…
