It has become extremely common for players to opt out of bowl games to prepare of the [autotag]NFL draft[/autotag] and for Notre Dame, they have seen it before.
Last year tight end Michael Mayer opted out to get ready to be drafted, and now offensive tackle [autotag]Blake Fisher[/autotag] will follow in his former teammates footsteps with the same decision.
Fisher started his freshman year before suffering a season ending injury, came back and played at a high level over the last two. He is viewed as a right tackle, but could slide over to the left side if needed, giving NFL teams flexibility.

Fisher moving on leaves a hole on the Irish offensive line as they prepare for the Sun Bowl, where both teams will be down multiple players.
