There was a lot of concern from fans that the matchup between the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers in 2023 might be the last time we see the rivalry game for quite some time, with uncertainly going forward after a conference realignment move to the Big Ten for Oregon. However, common sense prevailed, and the fans are left to benefit.
On Wednesday, columnist John Canzano reported that both Oregon and Oregon State will schedule a game to be played in 2024 during Week 3, on September 14th, in Corvallis.
Canzano also reports that the series will continue in a home-and-home fashion in 2025 and beyond.
Originally, the Ducks were scheduled to host the Boise State Broncos during the week of September 14th, with a home game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders a week earlier, on September 7. However, they have been able to move things around and keep it so they can continue their yearly rivalry against the Beavers instead.
Here is the reporting from Canzano on how the logistics will work out:
Texas Tech helped, for example. The Red Raiders were originally scheduled to play at Oregon on Sept. 7 next season. They’ll instead play at Washington State on that same date.
Boise State also helped. It was UO’s originally scheduled opponent for Sept. 14. The Broncos State will instead visit Eugene one week earlier. Boise State was originally contracted to play vs. Oregon State on Sept. 7 but will instead travel to Autzen Stadium.
While Oregon heads into the Big Ten alongside the USC Trojans, UCLA Bruins, and Washington Huskies, the future is currently unclear for the Beavers, who are left as one of the only two members of the Pac-12, standing alone with the Washington State Cougars. Those two teams are expected to compete as a two-team league in 2024, with a scheduling alliance with the Mountain West Conference.
It is unclear when and where these games will take place between Ducks and Beavers far into the future, but fans can at least feel happy that the rivalry is continuing on despite the conference realignment.
