Jonathon Brooks nabs All-Big 12 second team despite injury

Jonathon Brooks was a sensational piece to the Texas Longhorns backfield and deserves the award.

Despite suffering an unfortunate ACL injury, Texas running back Jonathon Brooks was recognized for his outstanding performance by being awarded a spot on the All-Big 12 second team on Wednesday.

While his injury may have ended his season on a somber note, this achievement will undoubtedly be a source of pride for him and what he accomplished this year.

After the end of the 2022 season, the dynamic running back duo of Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson declared for the NFL draft. This left many wondering who would fill their shoes.

Brooks emerged onto the scene after freshman CJ Baxter was injured early in the year, and he never let go of the starting position.

The sophomore accumulated 1,139 yards on the ground with 10 touchdowns to go along with it. He also caught 25 passes for 286 yards and one touchdown through the air during the season opener against Rice.

Brooks was a sensational piece to the Texas Longhorns backfield and is more than deserving of the All-Big 12 second team award. Had he not suffered the injury, Brooks likely would have been a finalist for the Doak Walker Award as well.
