The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got good news on the injury front with starting quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield injured his ankle during a quarterback sneak on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, and he had to briefly leave the game to get it checked out. He returned and eventually played the rest of the game, but he told reporters Sunday that the ankle was incredibly sore and that he was set to get an MRI when he flew back to Tampa.
Todd Bowles confirmed on Monday that Mayfield’s MRI came back negative. Bowles asserted that Mayfield was still pretty sore, however, and told reporters that the team will try to give him some rest when he needs it and that it’ll have to see how he’s moving toward the middle of the week.
Should Mayfield not be able to play against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, backup quarterback Kyle Trask will play in his stead. Trask played a set of downs in the red zone when Mayfield left the game Sunday.
