Texas head coach Sarkisian wins 11 games, makes Big 12 title

It wasn’t a dream. Texas really won 11 regular season games.

The Texas Longhorns improved to an 11-win regular season with a 57-7 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Friday night. It wasn’t a dream.

There is still plenty on the table for this Texas team, and certainly its head coach Steve Sarkisian wants to win a conference title. Yet while the season might have to include a conference title to be deemed a success, the Longhorns have all but ensured that it is far from a failure.

Sarkisian becomes the first Texas head coach to win 11 games in the first three seasons as head coach since Fred Akers did in 1977. And while many were quick to point out the head coach’s struggles in his first two seasons in Austin, Sarkisian’s team sits atop the Big 12 with an 11-1 record and 10-point road win over Alabama.

Texas is set to surge up the College Football Playoff rankings over the next eight days should it win its Big 12 title game as top teams face each other. Take it all in: the Longhorns are right where they want to be at the end of the season.
