The final Big 12 matchup between the Texas Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders is underway in Austin. The first quarter was eventful.
The Raiders have been beaten decisively by the Longhorns for much of the night, but not without suspense. The 26-7 score might not even indicate just how dominant the performance has been. Texas Tech’s opportunistic defense limited damage with stops on third downs and turnovers to slow the Texas attack in the first half.
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers started the game on fire completing his first six passes on his way to an easy touchdown drive on the first possession. Ewers and receivers Jordan Whittington, Xavier Worthy and Ja’Tavion Sanders were on the same page for much of the early going. The passing attack has since cooled with the team putting up just 26 points on 299 offensive yards.
The Texas defense has dominated the game for the most part. Save for a touchdown drive, the Longhorns surrendered very little to the Red Raiders in the first half. Texas Tech has 108 yards of offense at the intermission.
Since Tech’s only touchdown, Texas has separated and extended its lead. Here are a few of the highlights from the first half.
