The Detroit Lions are having a bit of a magical season in 2023. They entered Thursday’s Thanksgiving matchup with a comfortable lead in the NFC North and an 8-2 record as they hosted the struggling Green Bay Packers.
What could go wrong!?
The Lions ended up losing 29-22, falling behind 23-6 by the halftime break. Turns out, nature itself may have been working against Detroit. According to Jay Cuda, an X (formerly Twitter) user that loves statistics, the phase of the moon was not in the Lions’ favor on Thursday afternoon.
Apparently, Detroit has never won a game on Thanksgiving when the moon is in a Waxing Gibbous phase. The moon on this Thanksgiving? Waxing Gibbous, of course.
i have bad news for the lions 🙁
since the afl/nfl merger, they are 0-12 (.000) on thanksgiving when the moon is in a waxing gibbous phase. tomorrow is a waxing gibbous pic.twitter.com/IlKqXH5cgr
