Iowa State Cyclones guard Jarrod Hufford set the stage for Saturday’s bout. In his pregame thoughts, he painted Texas as arrogant, pampered and on its way to a loss in Ames. In doing so, the guard outed his own team’s arrogance heading into the matchup.
Hufford is about to face two potential Day 2 or better NFL drafted defensive tackles in T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy. It’s likely those two are heading to Iowa State’s Jack Trice stadium ready to serve the undersized guard a sizable helping of humble pie.
Make no mistake about what Hufford had to say. The Cyclones guard called Texas out as pretentious, soft and overrated. He questioned the team’s manhood. And if this Longhorns football squad is worth their salt, they will show up ready to win this game and leave no doubt.
Hufford said his team plans to send Texas home with a farewell present. He will have to come prepared to back it up on Saturday. The Cyclones’ 3-1 record over the last four matchups with the Longhorns is impressive, but the those games will mean nothing once the ball is kicked and the game starts.
Iowa State might be laughing in pregame, but he who laughs last laughs best. Both teams will look to earn bragging rights in the nationally televised game Saturday at 7 p.m. CT on Fox.
