Just when the injury bug seemed to calm down for the Iowa Hawkeyes, it again reared its ugly head during this 2023 college football season. This time, it has struck one of Iowa’s most electric players on defense and special teams.
Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean is likely to miss the remainder of the regular season with a leg injury.
Scott Dochterman of The Athletic was first on the news of DeJean’s injury. He stated it is believed to be an injury to the fibula and could be a six-week recovery.
That would put a bowl game right at the end of the recovery period and in question if DeJean would try to play, rest for the 2024 NFL draft or return next season to Iowa.

David Eickholt of HawkeyeInsider with 247Sports also reported Cooper DeJean suffered an injury in practice and will likely miss the remainder of the regular season. The official word from Iowa is pending.

This news exacerbates the unfortunate luck the Hawkeyes have had this season in the injury department. DeJean joins a group of key starters with likely season-ending injuries that includes senior quarterback Cade McNamara (ACL), senior tight end Erick All (ACL), and junior tight end Luke Lachey (ankle).
DeJean’s regular season apparently ends with him totaling 41 total tackles, seven pass breakups, and two interceptions. He also has one punt return touchdown while averaging 11.47 yards per punt return.
