Pacers forward Obi Toppin unveils strategy to slow down Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama: ‘Only thing you can do’

After the San Antonio Spurs loss to the Indiana Pacers, Obi Toppin spoke about the best strategy when guarding Victor Wembanyama.

Despite their success this season, the San Antonio Spurs are still a young team, and that showed on Monday night. They got absolutely obliterated by the Tyrese Haliburton-led Pacers, losing 152-111. Perhaps most notable, however, was the Pacers’ success when guarding rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama entered the league this year as one of the most hyped-up rookies in decades, yet somehow, he’s managed to exceed the expectations. However, against the Pacers on Monday, he struggled mightily. And according to Indiana forward Obi Toppin, the Pacers employed the only real strategy there is to attempt to slow down the 7-foot-whatever Frenchman.

Toppin said that all the Pacers could do was be physical with Wembanyama, so that’s exactly what they did. (H/t Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star)
