After winning a national championship in his second season at LSU in 2023, baseball coach [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] is seemingly sticking around for the long haul.
On Thursday, The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander reported that Johnson was set to receive a seven-year, $12.55 million extension that would make him the second-highest-paid coach in the country.
According to Alexander, the deal is expected to receive board approval on Friday.
Johnson’s contract was previously set to expire in 2026 but will now run through 2030. The 46-year-old has a 94-39 record in two seasons in Baton Rouge, winning the seventh national title in program history this past season.

Johnson, who came from Arizona following the 2021 season, has proven himself to be one of the top coaches in college baseball, and he’s now locked into a contract through the end of the decade.
