Gardner Minshew up next for Colts with Anthony Richardson on IR

Gardner Minshew up next for Colts with Anthony Richardson on IR

Just when you thought we were done with it, Minshew Mania always seems to find its way back to the forefront. Quarterback Gardner Minshew has had an interesting football life. From being a standout transfer at Washington State University to now an NFL journeyman, Minshew has rarely stayed with one team for long. But when he’s had time in the spotlight, he’s used it well.

Minshew is now on his third NFL team with the Indianapolis Colts, and has already helped win them three games. Minshew took over in relief of rookie Anthony Richardson in Week 2 and guided the ship to a 31-20 win. The following week, he engineered a game-winning drive to steal an upset 22-19  victory over the Ravens in overtime. Minshew once again took over for an injured Richardson in Week 5, and what do you know, the Colts held on for a 23-16 win over the Titans.

Now it seems we’ll be seeing a lot more of Minshew for at least the next month of play.

Minshew has proven himself to be a very capable starting quarterback when given the opportunity. His win/loss record of 9-16 is misleading, as he spent the first two years of his career on some bad Jaguars teams.

There’s no such thing as having too many quality quarterbacks. If Minshew performs well and keeps the Colts winning in Richardson’s absence, he very well could find himself on his fourth NFL team next year – albeit this time as the starter.
