The 49ers on Wednesday announced a handful of practice squad moves that included the addition of two familiar faces.
Offensive lineman Ilm Manning and running back Jeremy McNichols were both signed to San Francisco’s practice squad. In a corresponding move the club released fullback Jack Colletto and defensive lineman Marlon Davidson.
Manning was an undrafted rookie signing by the 49ers this year. He put together a strong offseason at his natural left tackle position, but his long-term projection is along the interior. Arizona signed Manning after the 49ers let him go at final cuts, but he was released by the Cardinals and scooped up by San Francisco. They’ll likely have him working at guard given that his chances to stick around with the 49ers will be on the inside.
McNichols has been with the 49ers a couple times recently. They’re trying to ensure RB Christian McCaffrey stays healthy and RB Elijah Mitchell is dealing with a knee issue so McNichols gives them a little bit of in-house depth.
