Analyzing Texas QB Quinn Ewers’ shaky performance vs Wyoming

Taking a look at Quinn Ewers’ performance vs Wyoming.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers had an up and down game against Wyoming in Week 3. That can be blamed on dropped passes, questionable play calling, and poor mechanics.

Ewers started the game with three incompletions. The first two passes intended for Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell were catchable, but ultimately dropped. The third pass of the drive to Jordan Whittington was high and out of reach.

His first completion of the game was to Worthy on a screen for about eight yards, followed by another completion to Mitchell for a first down.

Quinn had his first touchdown pass completed to defensive lineman Byron Murphy with 11:45 left in the first half, and his second and final touchdown pass to Worthy on a 44-yard screen pass in the fourth quarter.

Quinn Ewers might have a consistency problem, but it is still too early to tell for sure. It definitely does not help when Sarkisian calls multiple screen plays on every offensive possession, that could be Sark “saving his stuff” for conference play or just feeling confident enough that he didn’t need to be fancy or creative with his game plan. Either way, Ewers wasn’t great and according to PFF he only had a 52.4 pass grade.

If Texas wants to be dominant on offense like they were against Alabama, Ewers will have to be a lot sharper in his passes and reading the defense.
