Greg Schiano is embracing what is an unusual kickoff and timeslot for college football, the Rutgers football head coach is simply excited to see his program on the national stage. And with former player Jason McCourty on the call for CBS, it doesn’t get much better for Schiano.
Rutgers drew an impressive broadcast booth for Sunday’s season opener against Northwestern (12:00 PM, CBS). Tom McCarthy (from New Jersey) and former Rutgers standout defensive back [autotag]Jason McCourty[/autotag] will be on the call from SHI Stadium.
(A possibly sold-out SHI Stadium, no less).
McCarthy, best known locally as the television voice of the Philadelphia Phillies, is a highly respected announcer. Adding McCourty in the mix, a former NFL veteran and a beloved Rutgers alum, makes for a perfect broadcast pairing according to Schiano.
“They’re both great people. I’m more concerned about playing in the game than who is calling it,” Schiano told reporters on Thursday.
“I love the fact that one of my players is on it. Not so much that he is on for our game, but that he is valued that way in that industry.
“I’m excited for him. Having a national venue and being the only game on at noon is good. Everybody who loves football is going to be watching it.”
Tiffany Blackmon will be on the sidelines for the game in what is the season opener for both programs.
