Bills’ Von Miller set to miss first four games of 2023 season

Huge update on Von Miller’s status as the #Bills trim their roster:

As the Buffalo Bills trim down their roster to get to 53 players before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, there’s one big name that’s not going to be on it: Von Miller.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bills do not plan on activating Miller prior to the team’s first game of the season against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.

Per Schefter, Buffalo’s plan is to leave Miller on the PUP list for the start of the year. That means Miller will have to miss the first four games of the season.

Miller was placed on the injury designation at the start of training camp. He landed there because of his season-ending knee injury from the 2022 season.

Miller originally sustained the injury on Thanksgiving Day. While often optimistic that he would return before the start of the 2023 season, that wasn’t exactly a realistic timeline.

Such a serious injury usually takes up to a year to fully heal. That’s the timeline that Tre’Davious White was on when he sustained the same injury a year prior.

But Miller returning after the first four games is not out of the realm of possibility. It would still be an early return, but Miller has appeared to be ramping up his workouts on the sideline of Bills practices in recent weeks, according to various reports.

The four games Miller is now set to miss in the first month of the season include:

  • at New York Jets
  • vs. Las Vegas Raiders
  • at Washington Commanders
  • vs. Miami Dolphins
