Despite there being tons of hype surrounding Texas ahead of the 2023 season there also appears to be caution around them.
We learned that ESPN’s FPI views Texas as favorites in all but one game this season, which you would think would lead to them being ranked as one of the best teams in the country. According to The Athletic’s Chris Vannini who ranked all 133 FBS teams, Texas is on the outside looking in of the top 10.
The Longhorns came in at No. 13 behind Clemson and Utah, with Vannini posing the question if not this year then when for the Longhorns.
If Texas doesn’t get the job done this year, will the Longhorns ever do it? Quarterback Quinn Ewers should take a big step forward, the offensive line has grown into place and the defense should be better. But I understand if you’re sick of Texas hype.
While it is certainly a fair question considering that after 2023 they will be joining the all-powerful SEC, in reality this is Texas’ deepest team in a decade. There is understandable fatigue from fans, but if there were any year for Texas to be successful it’d be this season.
