AFC East news: James Cook’s brother, Dalvin, signs with Jets

A Cook family reunion in the AFC East:

It always seemed unlikely, but now it’s confirmed. The Buffalo Bills will only have one Cook in their backfield kitchen in 2023.

But Dalvin Cook didn’t go far.

The Pro Bowl rusher has signed with the New York Jets. Per Jets Wire, Cook inked a one-year deal worth up to $8.6 million in New York.

In June, Cook was released by the Minnesota Vikings when they failed to find a trade partner for him.

Briefly the Bills were connected to Cook–But that was player related. Dalvin Cook had reportedly had an interest in Buffalo because he understandably was not opposed to being on a team with his brother, James Cook.

Despite that, all along that seemed like a very long shot of happening… and now it has not.

At his age, 27, Dalvin Cook has plenty of left in the tank. He rushed for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns last season.

In addition to New York, the Miami Dolphins were among teams who had expressed interest in Cook. The Cook family is from the Miami area.

James Cook, Buffalo’s 2022 second-round selection, is going to get his first look at being the Bills’ No. 1 rusher this year. Former starter Devin Singletary signed with the Houston Texans as a free agent this spring. James Cook getting that opportunity also made Dalvin Cook signing with the Bills seem unlikely.

Regardless, Buffalo will have to faceoff against Cook twice in 2023 now. Cook joins a revamped Jets offense which is highlighted by the addition of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and already had included running back Breece Hall.
