Shortly after the Golden State Warriors‘ season came to an end, Golden State Warriors duo Steph Curry and Klay Thompson took part in “The Match” – a celebrity golf event. The Warriors duo faced off against NFL stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Unfortunately, Curry and Thompson were unable to use their pinpoint shooting accuracy to their advantage. The duo fell to their NFL counterparts.
When speaking to Paul George during a recent appearance on the “Podcast P with Paul George” podcast, presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment, Thompson noted how seriously he took the competition and that losing to Mahomes and Kelce hurt.
“I took it serious,” Thompson said. “That’s why it hurt so bad. But you can’t account for the nerves and the crowd. I let a lot of people down, Paul. … My short game was **** that day. I couldn’t hit a putt. Chipping in golf is where it’s hard, bro. Like 100-yard shot and in, even by the green — that’s what Kelce and Mahomes was doing so well. But that match stuff was intense, I haven’t been that nervous for a sporting event since Game 1 of the 2015 (NBA) Finals.”
Gotta see Klay & Steph run it back against Kelce & Mahomes on The Match 🤣@newheightshow pic.twitter.com/llHBCfsEhm

After “The Match” came to an end, Curry bounced back from his loss by winning the AC Championship, redeeming himself for his poor outing against Mahomes and Kelce. Thompson didn’t have the same luxury and appears to still be a little sore regarding the way the event played out.
Nevertheless, Warriors fans will be happy if that loss on the golf course has lit a fire under Thompson heading into the new season, and he uses that fire to help push Golden State back to an NBA Finals appearance.
