Texas is heading into the 2023 season with the mindset of one like Mr. John Wick.
Programs across the Big 12 are always wanting to beat Texas and put them in their place, but with the Longhorns projected to have their best team since 2009 and also departing for the SEC following the season, it’s different in 2023.
Texas will always be enemy No. 1 in the eyes of most programs, but it is something that Steve Sarkisian revealed to reporters that they aren’t focusing on.
Instead, he and the Longhorns are looking to achieve their lofty goals.
“I think this team is on a mission, they’ve taken this mindset of being on a mission. They’ve kind of adopted the John Wick mentality,” Sarkisian said at a news conference. “I think that they’ve kind of assumed this mentality of, ‘Embrace the hate.’ We get it. We’re the University of Texas, we get it. This is our last year in the Big 12. We can sit there and be a punching bag, or we can go attack the people that we’re going to play. And I think that they’ve assumed that responsibility to say, hey, we’re gonna go after everybody else too. I think that that’s the right mentality to have.”
Texas was picked to win the Big 12 for the first time since 2009, and it is credited to their depth all over the roster. Something that they really haven’t had since Mack Brown was on the sidelines.
If the Longhorns can stay focused, win the games they are supposed to, and stay healthy, 2023 could end up being a dream season and a successful mission.
