Lost in the Joe Burrow injury buzz at least slightly was news of the Cincinnati Bengals giving star defensive end Trey Hendrickson a one-year extension.
And now we know a little more about it.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the extension includes $21 million in new cash, made up of a $5 million pay bump in 2023 and $16 million in 2025 (2024 is unchanged).
In other words, the Bengals broke their usual mold again and found a nice balance — they brought Hendrickson’s money more in line with his top-flight production while also structuring it in a way that actually saves them some cap space on this 2023 cap.
This is new for the Bengals, as is extending a veteran more than one year out from his current contract expiring.
Case in point:
Bengals have never once done this in the post 2011 CBA era. Even for a 1Y extension
