Jalen Hurts was a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, No. 53 overall, and despite that, has taken the league by storm. Hurts has gotten monumentally better each year in the league and surpassed all pre-draft expectations. The former Alabama quarterback is coming off of a massive season in 2022 that included finishing as a runner-up for the NFL MVP award and a very impressive Super Bowl performance.
At this point, it is a consensus opinion that the Eagles quarterback is a top-five quarterback in the NFL alongside guys like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen. First-Team All-Pro wide receiver and the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year from 2022 in the Minnesota Vikings Justin Jefferson reaffirmed Hurts’ top-five status by including him in his own list.
This July, Netflix releases a new TV show called Quarterback where they went behind the scenes in 2022 to follow the Vikings’ Kirk Cousins, the Falcons’ Marcus Mariota and the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes. Netflix released a teaser trailer this week where Jefferson lists his top five quarterbacks in the league and leaves off his QB, Kirk Cousins.
Initially, people were upset that Jefferson didn’t include his quarterback, but the list makes sense and is hard to argue against. Jefferson says that the five best quarterbacks in the NFL right now are Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen.
With a great team around him and a weaker NFC division, the stage is set for Hurts to dominate the NFL in 2023 and earn all sorts of accolades. The Eagles returned the best roster of probably any team from last season; and to top it off, they had arguably the best draft of any team. Hurts has the pieces around him to capture the NFL MVP award this year.
