Best college athlete, men’s sports nominees

— Zach Edey, Purdue Basketball

— Duncan McGuire, Creighton Soccer

— Brennan O’Neill, Duke Lacrosse

— Caleb Williams, USC Football

Williams won.

In his first season at USC, Williams was the best quarterback in college football. He displayed outstanding arm strength, excellent accuracy, poise in the pocket, and elite athleticism. All those traits made him a dangerous dual-threat quarterback last year.

In the 2022 season Williams accumalated a 168.5 QB rating, 42-5 TD-INT ratio, 4,537 pass yards, and 10 rush TDs. He went on the win the Heisman Trophy.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated shared that multiple NFL talent evaluators he spoke with are extremely high on Williams, viewing him as a generational talent. Some have put him on the same tier as Trevor Lawrence and Andrew Luck as prospects.

Let’s see if Williams can repeat by competing for a national title and another Heisman and go back-to-back in 2023.
