Team USA defeated China, 92-69, Wednesday in the FIBA U19 World Cup.
The contest took place in Debrecen, Hungary.
Tennessee’s Tobe Awaka led Team USA with 15 points. He was 5-for-10 in field goal attempts and 5-for-6 in free throw attempts.
Awaka also recorded 14 rebounds and two steals versus China.
Team USA will next play Japan in the quarterfinals on Friday. Tipoff is slated for 11:30 a.m. EDT.
Team USA, host Hungary, South Korea, Egypt, Canada, Argentina, Madagascar, Brazil, China, Slovenia, Turkey, Japan, Lebanon, Serbia and Spain are competing in the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup.
Awaka appeared in 34 games as a freshman for the Vols during the 2022-23 season. He averaged 3.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game last season.
