Daniel Jones says Giants can ‘compete with anybody’

Daniel Jones says he and the New York Giants are confident headed into 2023, believing they can “compete with anybody.”

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is relatively reserved in front of the camera. He’s much like Eli Manning in that way — professional, engaging, humble, and to the point.

But away from the cameras, Jones is loved by his friends and teammates. He’s funny, outgoing, confident, and demonstrates many leadership qualities.

Again, Jones is very much like Manning in that way.

As Jones enters his fifth season as a professional, he’s beginning to emulate his predecessor in other ways. For Manning, the turn of a corner came when he called himself “elite” and said he belonged in the Tom Brady class.

At the time, those comments stirred controversy. Manning was surprised by how viral they went but ultimately lived up to his word by taking Brady down in Super Bowl XLII (and then again in Super Bowl XLVI).

Jones now finds himself in a similar situation.

After exchanging “Go Birds!” and “Let’s go Giants!” chants with country music star Zach Bryan at a recent concert, Jones made the bold claim that the Giants are among the league’s best and are capable of competing with anyone.

“We’re confident, and we know we can compete with anybody,” Jones told the New York Post.

As confident as Jones and the Giants are after picking up a playoff victory a season ago, they know future success is not guaranteed without the work.

“We feel like we made progress last year and took a step,” Jones said. “But what we do from this point on, you start over. It’s about what you do now. We had a good spring, and we have to roll that into training camp and make sure we do everything we can.”

Training camp is still a month away but Jones and the Giants aren’t going to sit on their hands during that time. Rather, they plan to gather in Charlotte for some additional pre-camp workouts similar to what they did in Arizona earlier this year.
