In a decision that doesn’t come as much of a surprise, LSU will start [autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] on the mound when it plays for a national title in a winner-take-all Game 3 of the College World Series final against Florida on Monday night.
Hurd, a transfer from UCLA, will make his 11th start of the season against the Gators. He has a 7-2 record on the year with a 5.97 earned run average while striking out 77 batters and walking a team-high 38.
Hurd’s last appearance came in the final game against Wake Forest. He finished that one out, throwing three no-hit innings.
LSU may have [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] available on the mound in some capacity, but after the Tigers’ ace has thrown 243 pitches in 10 days, the team will likely keep him on a limited pitch count, if he plays at all.
Thatcher Hurd is starting today, according to an #LSU spokesperson.

But the Tigers will go with Hurd to start and hope that his improved recent play continues against a Florida lineup that scored a College World Series record 24 runs in LSU’s Game 2 loss.
