The Texas Rangers (47-29) and New York Yankees (42-35) clash in the Sunday rubber match of a 3-game set at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1:35 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Yankees odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rangers lead 4-2

Texas and New York have thus far split a pair of pitcher’s duels in this series. The Rangers broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of 10th-inning runs to win 4-2 Friday. Texas then scattered 8 hits and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position — with that runner being tagged out on a throw home — in a taut 1-0 loss on Saturday.

Despite coughing up 10 runs to the Seattle Mariners Thursday, Yankee pitching has compiled a 2.54 ERA over its last 5 games. The club owns a 2.06 ERA over its last 9 games in the Bronx.

Rangers at Yankees projected starters

RHP Nathan Eovaldi vs. RHP Gerrit Cole

  • The former Yankees pitcher (2015-16) ranks 4th in MLB in innings pitched
  • Tossed a complete-game shutout against New York on April 29, but current NY batters own an aggregate .764 OPS against him
  • Looking to rally from logging a 5.12 ERA over his last 3 starts

Cole (8-1, 2.64 ERA) makes his 17th start of the season. He has a 1.08 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 9.6 K/9 in 99 innings.

  • Ranks 5th in MLB in innings pitched
  • Owns a 3.02 ERA at Yankee Stadium across the last 3 years

Rangers at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 5, Yankees 4

Moneyline

The Rangers are 6-1 in their last 7 games after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game. The Yankees are 1-5 in their last 6 games following a victory.

There is some lean against the pitching in this game — on both sides in the starters department. That’s not to say Eovaldi and Cole are not quality hurlers, just that their surface stats are overselling that quality in the betting market.

From a team won-loss perspective, the Yanks figure as a tad overcooked (lucky) so far, and the Rangers may actually be a couple games under where they should be. Texas is also the healthier club overall and has the more rested bullpen, especially at the back end.

Figure the Rangers as a small lean. PASS on the current offering, but consider Texas as a partial-unit value at +106 or better.

Run line/Against the spread

The Over is a likable play in this game, but we should want at least +170 if looking to back the Rangers. STEER CLEAR.

Over/Under

The Over is 7-1-1 in the Rangers’ last 9 games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.

Cole threw 105 pitches in his last effort, and that was in a high-stress game the Yanks felt they had to have in stopping a losing streak. The veteran righty has had some next-time out trouble after earlier pitch counts of 108 and 104.

Texas owns solid numbers against Cole; New York has good numbers against the scuffling-of-late Eovaldi.

On a warm, humid afternoon at Yankee Stadium, and with a New York bullpen likely looking to make due without its best arms, BACK THE OVER 7.5 (-105).
